Marginalia Bible Privacy Policy

Marginalia Bible is published by Grace Baptist Church Incorporated. We don't collect your personal information. The app has no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking, and we run no server that it reports to.

Your notes

Your notes, journal pages and bookmarks are stored on your iPad. If you're signed in to iCloud, they also sync through your private iCloud database, which Apple manages under Apple's privacy policy. We can't see them.

Handwriting search reads your notes with Apple's text recognition, on your iPad. Nothing you write is sent anywhere for this.

Bible text

The King James Version and American Standard Version are built into the app. When you read another translation, the app asks that translation's provider for the chapter:

The request names the chapter and, where the translation needs one, includes your API key. Like any website, the provider sees your device's internet address, and its own privacy policy applies. The app keeps chapters it has fetched on your iPad and refreshes them every 30 days.

API.Bible's terms require apps to report which passages were shown, so the publishers can count readers. When you read the NIV, CSB or NASB, the app sends API.Bible those passage reports with a random ID that the app creates. The ID isn't connected to your name, your Apple Account or your device's identifiers.

API keys

API keys you enter are kept in your iPad's keychain. Each key is sent only to the provider it belongs to.

Backups and exports

Backup files and PDF exports are created only when you ask for them. They go wherever you choose to save or share them.

Children

The app doesn't collect information from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date.
